As one of TPH’s newest offerings, 3D printing has been a viable way for customers to produce just about anything. The myth that 3D printing is an exclusive technology for engineers and architects is simply that – a myth. Beyond prototyping, the technology is able to build a variety of practical items to be used within one’s home or office. Here are a few cool examples:
3D printing can help preserve memories or bring back an item you thought would be lost to damage or time.
For years I tried to find a potter or a ceramicist to replicate the cake toppers, but no one would do the mold for a small production line. Then I saw the 3D printers at The Printing House and the problem was solved. I now have 10 sets to give to our immediate family at my parent’s 65th wedding anniversary party.

TPH 3D printing extends the life of legacy pieces to a new generation. These modest cake toppers have the highest sentimental value to our customer. She asked us to repair and replicate 10 sets to give as gifts at a 65th wedding anniversary. For years she tried to find a potter or a ceramicist to do a copy of the cake toppers but could never find anyone who would do the mold for a small production line. She then asked TPH 3D and the problem was solved.
The toppers stand at 2-1/2“, made from a thin wafer like plastic, with a moderate amount of detail. The grooms head was mashed in, the bride’s gown was worn and faded, but she still had that ideal glow. We captured the detail using our hand-held Artec scanner then meticulously examined the scan for a correct and consistent capture to print. The designer repaired the mashed in head of the groom and his hat colour was changed to black. The bride’s gown was whitened while her flower bouquet was recast in yellow. All the work was approved by the customer before the objects went to print.
Once the preparation was complete we printed 10 sets, the print took 10 hours and the finishing work another 2.5 hours. The customer was pleased with the print, especially the great repair job of the crushed grooms head from more than 30 years ago.
