How to create the best signage for your business

At one point or another you need to think about signage. Signage can include anything from your main outdoor signage, event signage, car decals, poster prints or banners. Having the right sign for your company can help draw in new customers and bring new opportunities. Research says that having good signage pays off in sales. In fact, 68% of consumers believe that a store’s signage is reflective of the quality and are drawn to stores that have high quality and professional signage.

Follow this checklist for creating professional signage designs that convert!

  • Keep the words to a minimum. A good rule of thumb is to try and keep your message under 7 words so it doesn’t get lost. Choose your words wisely and keep in mind that 52% of people say they are less willing to enter a store with misspelled signs!
  • Keep the typefaces simple. A simple typeface is much easier to read than one that’s in a script or other decorative-style fonts on large banner prints.
  • Vital visuals. Using a logo or some sort of visual element can help to make the sign stand out more but don’t get carried away. Keep the visuals to a minimum so it doesn’t clash or distract.
  • Contrasting colours. Keep in mind the contract of the type that you choose so you select something that is easy to read. Black on white or white on red are both combinations that are easily readable from up close and from a distance on big banner signs or large poster prints.

Sprucing up your signage is one way to make sure you make a strong first impression. Make sure yours is in top shape so that each impression is a good one.

Do you judge a store by its signage? What business has great, memorable signage?
