Business cards – the basics

printing toronto, printing vancouver, printing ottawa, printing calgary, printing halifaxGiven the dimensional modesty of the common business card, it is a surprisingly complex element of your business stationery to create, update and redesign. Business cards are almost always the first point of contact a potential customer will have with your brand identity, and you want to make sure your business cards represent you and your business in the best possible light.

Contact Information

First and foremost, the main purpose of your business card is to ensure that people know where to find you. Whether you’re dealing with a potential partner, a customer or an employee, you want to make sure that when you hand out your business card, you’ve made it clear how to contact you.

The type on your business card should be crisp and clean. Too often business cards are focused more on the logo or a trendy style element and the contact information gets lost in a flashy colour scheme or illegible font.

Make a list of what you want to include, from conventional information such as your name, position and email address, to more unique inclusions such as social media handles or a personal photo. Make your list and check it twice. You’d hate to have to reprint because you forgot to include your website or cell phone number (it’s happened!).

Size

Business card holders, Rolodexes and wallets are where people will be keeping your cards, so you want to make sure that what you’re creating is within those parameters. If your business card is too big or made of a material that will be difficult to handle, your very cool but unconventional business card might find itself lost in a sea of papers or, worse, in the trash!

These are two small considerations when looking at the effectiveness of your business cards, but, for the sake of growing your business, you want to make sure you get them right.
